UGA donors break records in Beat Week 2024

October 15, 2024by Clarke Schwabe
Beat Week promo mark showcasing the Georgia vs. Alabama giving challenge on top of a football field background.

Beat Week 2024 saw the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama compete in a week-long giving challenge that broke records and pushed each school’s fans and alumni to dig deep. The result was a banner day for philanthropy and tens of thousands of dollars raised for student support.

Beat Week is a week-long giving challenge where UGA and another university compete to see who can drive their supporters to make more gifts over the course of a week. After a heated competition, Alabama came out on top, bringing Georgia’s record in Beat Week challenges to 4-1.

Despite the loss, UGA donors gave more gifts than in any previous Beat Week, contributing a total of 17,390 gifts. Moreover, Beat Week 2024 saw 39% more donors participate than in 2023.

Gifts supported more than 600 funds at UGA, including:

  • 130 scholarship funds, 11 of which were alumni chapter scholarship funds.
  • 17 student support funds.
  • 11 student emergency funds.
  • 11 study abroad/study away funds.
  • 7 experiential learning funds.

One of the UGA programs supported was the Let All the Big Dawgs Eat program, which awards meal plan scholarships to students in need. LATBDE received more $31,000 in donations, which will fully fund seven meal plan scholarships.

Our sincere thanks to each and every donor who contributed to Beat Week. Bama may have stolen our perfect Beat Week record, but Bulldogs should be proud of their record-breaking performance and the students whose lives will be changed as a result.
