Cox Automotive gift boosts e-mobility initiative at UGA

A significant gift from Cox Automotive to the University of Georgia is helping the university spearhead efforts to make electric mobility accessible to all citizens in Georgia and establish the state as a global leader in electric mobility innovation.
The commitment will enhance the UGA College of Engineering by providing support for undergraduate scholarships, graduate research fellowships and experiential learning opportunities such as co-ops, internships and capstone projects for students.
“This support from Cox Automotive will provide significant benefits to the e-mobility industry, our state and the University of Georgia,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead. “The university is thankful to have partners like Cox, who share our mission of preparing students to succeed in a rapidly changing economy and strengthening the state of Georgia.”
The gift also supports the Georgia Network for Electric Mobility (GNEM). The network, established by UGA in 2023, focuses on enhancing research, education and outreach opportunities in e-mobility across Georgia.
GNEM brings together industry, academia, government and communities to aid workforce development, economic development and research, taking special care to involve rural and underserved communities and small businesses. Through their gift, Cox Automotive is providing support for every facet of GNEM’s work.
“As advocates for the advancement of education and sustainable mobility, we are proud to announce our commitment to fostering innovation at the University of Georgia,” said Joe George, president of mobility at Cox Automotive. “We aim to empower the next generation of leaders while also paving the way for a more environmentally conscious future in electric mobility.”
As a GNEM founding partner, Cox Automotive will be featured as a premier sponsor of the College of Engineering’s third annual Electric Mobility Summit in April. The summit will focus on advancing the adoption of electric mobility in the state, educational programs to support the demands of this growing industry, and the future of electric mobility in Georgia and beyond.
