The University of Georgia Parents Leadership Council invites campus organizations with a clear commitment to enhancing the undergraduate student experience to apply for grant funding for the 2021-22 academic year.

The deadline to apply for funding is Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. Applications will be accepted from UGA schools, colleges, units, departments, divisions or student organizations registered with the Center for Student Activities and Involvement. Late applications will not be accepted.

Grants are awarded annually to fund scholarships, support critical undergraduate student needs and assist registered student organizations with projects and programs that enhance the quality of life for undergraduates.

Programs that receive grant funding demonstrate a direct and positive impact on student life at UGA. Previous grant awards supported projects that enhanced student engagement, student well-being and cultural experiences.

For previous grant recipients like the Counseling and Psychiatrics Services (CAPS) Financial Assistance Program at the University Health Center, grant funding became even more critical this year.

“Amidst this pandemic, many families have faced significant financial strain, job loss or loss of benefits and we have found that students are even more concerned about finances,” said Jennifer Hester, associate director of outreach and collaboration at CAPS. “I cannot express enough how much we appreciate having this grant as an option for students who might otherwise disengage from much-needed mental health services.”

The PLC Grants Program awarded 64 grants totaling over $700,000 for the 2020-21 academic year. Since 2002, the council has awarded over $3.2 million in grants to programs such as Designated Dawgs, the Outreach and Financial Assistance Fund at the UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic, the Student Government Association’s Professional Clothing Closet and Ramsey Palooza.

“UGA student organizations depend on the generous contributions from our parents each year to enhance student life on campus through their multifaceted programs and events,” said Andrea Parris, senior director of parent giving and a former UGA parent herself. “The collective support of UGA parents over many years makes this grant funding possible, further highlighting the importance of private giving.”
