Spreading Sustainability at UGArden

Help raise $4,000 by April 30

UGArden is the student-powered, sustainable community farm at the University of Georgia. Founded by students for students, we’ve turned 10 acres of land into a teaching farm, a small business, and a community food hub. Through the power of service and experiential learning, we’re training the next generation of agricultural leaders in organic food production.

As part of our commitment to sustainable farming practices, we use compost produced on-farm to enrich our soil, reduce waste, and create a healthier, more resilient soil. However, spreading compost by hand can be time-consuming and labor-intensive, and that’s where we need your help. Our goal is to purchase an $8,000 compost spreader, a vital piece of equipment that will allow us to more efficiently spread compost throughout our fields, boosting soil health and improving crop yields. When we reach our initial goal of $4,000 — met through gifts from generous donors like you — the additional $4,000 will be matched by UGArden supporters David and Evelyn Knauft!

Composting is a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture. It turns organic waste into a beneficial soil amendment that supports plant growth, helps retain moisture, and promotes biodiversity. By incorporating compost into our farming practices, we reduce the need for chemical fertilizers and decrease our carbon footprint. Not only does composting benefit our crops, but it also helps close the loop in our food system by recycling organic materials into valuable resources.

With your support, UGArden will be able to increase our efficiency, strengthen our soil, and continue providing organic produce to our campus and community. In addition to supporting our farm’s operations, your contribution will directly impact the education of students who are passionate about sustainable agriculture. Through UGArden, students gain invaluable, hands-on experience in organic farming, learn about environmental stewardship, and are empowered to lead change in the agricultural industry.

We invite you to be part of this exciting chapter in UGArden’s growth. Together, we can build a greener, more sustainable future. Donate today and help us continue to grow, educate, and make a lasting impact on our community and the environment.
