The Social Work Campaign for Student Travel

5 Conference Scholarships. 5 Days. 5 Thousand Dollars.

UGA Social Work students need your help to get to conferences and share their research! From September 25 to 29, we’re asking each and every Social Work Dawg to help us reach our fundraising goal of $5,000 and create FIVE new conference travel scholarships.

social work dawgs hit the road

With national conferences in New Orleans, LA; Washington D.C.; and Cincinnati, OH this year, the hurdles are higher for UGA SSW student researchers to attend. Costs for research preparation, registrations, and travel are skyrocketing. Your support will empower the newest generation of Social Work Dawgs and help them explore the scope and interdisciplinary aspects of our profession.

A note from Megan Powell, Development and Alumni Relations

group of students from social workInvolvement with professional organizations allows students to grow as professionals and build connections that will propel their careers. It’s funny how sometimes a small opportunity to attend a meeting, to sit in on a conference call, or volunteer for a committee starts to connect you to a different world- to a larger circle of people. Maybe one of them becomes your colleague, maybe one writes a letter of recommendation for you, or is that person you sit beside at a board meeting and you realize your roots have grown together over time. We’re looking for some big things from UGA SSW alumni and supporters. You’re a big part of what we do, and we want you to be a big part of the life of our students. When we all come together we can easily cover the cost of getting five students to major national conferences this year.
