Help Establish the Karl Espelie Pre-Health Student Support Fund

Celebrate Dr. Espelie’s 34 year legacy at UGA

Dr. Karl Espelie’s legacy at the University of Georgia is defined not just by longevity but by the depth of impact he had over an extraordinary 34-year career. As a beloved professor, dedicated researcher, and compassionate mentor, he shaped the lives of countless students — many of whom he remains in touch with to this day — leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege to learn from him.

Teaching across both the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), Dr. Espelie brought a rare passion and warmth to education, making complex ideas accessible and, more importantly, making each student feel seen, heard, and valued. His devotion to their growth — both academic and personal — was unwavering.

Throughout his time at UGA, Dr. Espelie was recognized with many honors, including the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award and the D.W. Brooks Award for Excellence in Teaching. But beyond the accolades, his true legacy lies in the quiet, powerful ways he guided students, helping them find confidence, direction, and often, their life’s calling. It’s a testament to his enduring legacy that even after his retirement, his spirit of mentorship continues to inspire future generations.

This initiative is a tribute to Dr. Espelie’s remarkable life and work, celebrating not just his many accomplishments but the love and support he gave so freely. Through it, we hope to carry forward his spirit of mentorship by supporting students in the fields he so deeply enriched. It reflects a legacy that continues to grow, one student at a time, and a heartfelt reminder that his influence will never fade.

In recognition of Karl’s strong influence on students pursuing careers in healthcare, we are establishing a fund in his honor to support future pre-health students. Will you help continue Dr. Espelie’s legacy with a gift today?
