UGA Students at Commencement

Support First-Generation Students!

First-generation Bulldogs bring unique perspectives, resilience, and drive to our campus. However, they have distinct needs as they navigate college without the guidance of parents, families, or supporters who have completed a bachelor’s degree.

The University of Georgia’s Office for Student Success and Achievement is committed to ensuring these students thrive, offering tailored support and fostering a community that empowers their success.

Through collaboration with campus partners, UGA celebrates and supports first-generation students year-round.

Our efforts include:

  • A week of events honoring National First-Generation College Celebration Day, held annually November 8th
  • Programs focused on promoting first-gen student success
  • Ongoing collaborative initiatives offering resources, mentorship, and engagement opportunities

Our work is making a tangible impact on first-gen students. They have a 90% first-year retention rate, their four-year graduation rate increased from 59% to 73%, and their six-year graduation rate rose from 82% to 84%!

As we continue to expand these efforts, we welcome your support. Whether through event sponsorship, mentorship opportunities, or resource contributions, your involvement can make a meaningful difference in the lives of first-generation Bulldogs.
