Calling All Engineering Dawgs!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING’S CAPSTONE DESIGN SHOWCASE CAMPAIGN! THIS CAMPAIGN HAS COME TO A CLOSE. IF YOU WANT TO SUPPORT THIS CAUSE, YOU CAN GIVE HERE:  ENGINEERING CAPSTONE DESIGN SUPPORT FUND

The 2025 Capstone Design Showcase will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at The Classic Center. Over 450 engineering students have been working hard for the past year to bring their projects from planning to completion, all in preparation for the Design Showcase, where they will present their projects and be critiqued on several criteria.

The Capstone Design Program touches every graduate from UGA Engineering, and we strive to provide them a great experience that incorporates hands on learning and professional development. That is not possible without support from our alumni, friends, and corporate partners. This support funds project materials and resources, student travel to and from project sites, among other programmatic needs.

Help us reach our goal of 50 gifts to support the Capstone Design Program by midnight on April 23!

The Capstone Design program provides industry and community partners the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team of engineering and computing students focused on accomplishing innovative and impactful projects. Students lead engineering design projects from planning to completion. While benefiting the partner, students also develop essential leadership and professional skills required of them when entering the workforce including creative problem-solving, and cooperative collaboration. The ethics, laws, rules and regulations, licensure, and professional practice of engineering are important aspects of Capstone Design courses.

  • Average cost of one project: $2,100
  • Number of projects this year: 113
  • Variety of projects this year: Archway; Competition; Entrepreneurial; Government; For Profit/Industry; Non-Profit; UGA Engineering; UGA Cross Campus Partners

Each year, Capstone Senior Design students present at the Capstone Design Showcase, displaying their prototypes, designs, and solutions developed for their projects. During the event, projects are evaluated by a judging team comprised of engineering professionals in both industry and academia. Capstone projects are evaluated based on criteria aligned with the learning outcomes outlined by ABET. Awards are given for the best projects in the following categories:

  • Community Impact
  • Computerized System or Software Design
  • Machine Design
  • Manufactured System or Process Design
  • Medical Device or Biological Process Design
  • Sustainable Design
