Please join us in honoring the memory of Maria Guzman, a beloved colleague and friend whose unexpected passing this winter deeply affected the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine community, especially her colleagues in the Clinical Pathology department. To celebrate Maria’s life and legacy, we are raising funds for a personalized memorial plaque in the hospital’s Butler Garden, where her compassion, dedication, and contributions will be remembered for years to come.

Maria’s decade-long career with the UGA Department of Pathology left an indelible mark on the College and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. As a talented and dedicated medical laboratory scientist in the clinical pathology laboratory, Maria was an exemplary employee. Her expertise in diagnostic hematology and remarkable attention to detail at the microscope were instrumental in helping clinicians reach accurate diagnoses and deliver effective treatments. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Maria was honored with the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Service Technician Award in 2023.

Maria was also a gifted educator who generously shared her knowledge with veterinary students and clinical pathology residents. Her enthusiasm for teaching and her patient, encouraging approach made her a beloved mentor and colleague.

Known for her kindness, humility, and gentle spirit, Maria touched the lives of everyone she encountered—faculty, clinicians, students, and staff alike. Her legacy is one of quiet excellence, compassionate service, and deep dedication to the patients and people she served every day. She will be deeply missed.
