The University of Georgia’s College of Environment and Design is launching a bold new initiative: the Undergraduate Certificate in Construction Management, beginning Fall 2025. This program fills a critical gap in Georgia’s higher education landscape, equipping students with in-demand skills at the intersection of design, engineering, project management, and sustainability.

Why Construction Management?
The construction industry is booming — but it’s facing a talent shortage. Georgia alone saw a 17.4% increase in demand for construction managers, with over 400,000 job openings nationwide as of early 2024. Our students — from landscape architecture and engineering to real estate and environmental design — are ready to step into these roles. This certificate will give them the knowledge and credentials they need to thrive.

What Your Support Will Do
With your investment, we will:

• Launch two new core courses in construction law and project management.
• Fund guest lectures and workshops by industry leaders.
• Provide scholarships and support for underrepresented students, especially women and minorities.
• Enhance hands-on learning through design-build studios and service-learning projects.
• Expand access to high-demand elective courses in real estate, civil engineering, BIM, and sustainability.

Projected Impact
Your investment will impact:

• 15 – 20 graduates annually at launch; 50 – 75 students enrolled in just a few years.
• Strong interest already confirmed by 60% of Landscape Architecture and nearly 70% of Engineering students surveyed.
• Graduates will be uniquely equipped for “horizontal” construction management — land-based, infrastructure, and community-scale projects not addressed in traditional programs.
