Location: Santa Elena, Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Words from the photographer: “I study abroad in Costa Rica for the fall semester of 2025. In Costa Rica, independence is celebrated throughout September. Additionally, the night before, there are parades held throughout different communities with “los faroles” or lanterns. Getting to see how Independence Day there is a day to celebrate culture, heritage, and the youth of Costa Rica was really amazing. It filled me with so much joy to see how the entire community comes together to teach kids about their culture and traditions, like the dresses and dances shown in the photograph. The study abroad I went on was an ecology study abroad, but you could not separate the nature from the people.”
Why Give to Vote?
The University of Georgia Latino Alumni Council is bringing Bulldog pride into focus with a special photo contest to support its scholarship fund. Ten scholars, past and present, have stepped in front of the camera and submitted photos that reflect their journeys. Now it’s your turn to get involved.
To vote, click the image of the photo you want to support, then click “Donate Now.” The photo with the most dollars raised wins — so the more you give, the more votes you cast for your favorite photo. There’s no limit! Even $1 makes an impact on both our scholarship and the contest.
The winning picture with the most funds raised will be featured on a custom LAC-branded postcard.
Every vote is more than a favorite photo — it’s an investment in future Bulldog leaders. Your support helps create access to higher education while celebrating the incredible scholars who represent the strength and spirit of our community.
Voting ends Friday, May 15.
