Honoring a UGA Legacy

For 30 years, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences professor Dr. Jan Westpheling has shared her passion for science and genetics at the University of Georgia with several generations of Bulldogs. She has garnered several prestigious accolades throughout her long career, including president of the International Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, two-time recipient of the UGA Creative Research Medal, and principal investigator for the Center for Bioenergy Innovation to name a few.

Known for her dedication to research and her passion for mentoring research students, Dr. Westpheling touched the lives of many throughout her distinguished career.

As a tribute to the extraordinary life of Dr. Westpheling, the Janet Westpheling Memorial Fund has been established in the Jere W. Morehead Honors College to provide support for the Foundation Fellowship and College, ensuring that Jan’s legacy of dedication to students continues.
