Protect and Conserve the Alligators of the Okefenokee
Perched along the Georgia – Florida border, is the Okefenokee Swamp, the largest blackwater swamp in North America. At the heart of this remarkable ecosystem are the American alligators, iconic and resilient creatures.
American alligators were the first species to be listed as federally endangered and then recover, showcasing the impact of dedicated conservation efforts.

We know, Bulldog Nation – it just sounds wrong!
The UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Coastal Ecology Lab is on a quest to conserve and manage Georgia’s alligator population through research, environmental education and public engagement.
Led by Dr. Kimberly Andrews, hundreds of alligators have been captured for population studies and genetic mapping, and specialized satellite tags have been deployed to observe alligator movement across the three Okefenokee Swamp entrances.
In celebration of National Alligator Day, answer the call and safeguard Georgia’s American alligator population with a gift.
The first 25 donors will receive an exclusive alligator track commemorative sticker!
