Fall 2021 Issue
We enjoyed seeing many of you at the 2021 Presidents Club Reception on November 5. We are always proud to recognize your generosity, and we look forward to many more years of partnership in support of the University.
Donor Spotlight
Katie Comer (BSA ’13) decided to give back after private support paved her way to UGA. Her journey started with Georgia 4-H, generous parents, and the lesson that you should give back whenever you can.
Donor Impact
Vicki Michaelis joined UGA in 2012 after 21 years as a sports journalist, including 12 as the lead Olympics reporter for USA Today. Thanks to her work on the Grady Sports Bureau and the UGA-Grady High School Sports Broadcast Program, a student can spend years gaining practical sports journalism experience before entering the job market. The generous endowment from the John Huland Carmical Foundation helps attract and retain seasoned professionals, like Michaelis, who prepare the next generation with their knowledge and skill in teaching.
Donors are supporting the new Poultry Science Complex, which will add 70,000+ square feet of student-focused facilities and help attract and retain the industry’s most accomplished researchers. While large gifts and commitments are making great progress in fundraising for the building, smaller gifts total more than $51,000 already. All of these generous donors are dedicated to supporting UGA’s top-ranked poultry science program. The Poultry Science Department serves our state and nation through innovations that help poultry farmers face the challenges of tomorrow. The new facility will support that mission. The successful UGA Mentor Program pairs alumni, staff and faculty mentors with students. More than 2,775 mentoring relationships have been facilitated since the program began, and 99% of mentors reported being satisfied with their experience in the program.
The UGA Mentor Program personalizes the mentoring experience, connecting you with students no matter your location or schedule. Create a profile on the website and then accept a student’s request for mentorship. We only ask that you commit to a 16-week mentorship, investing 1-2 hours per month. Visit mentor.uga.edu and help a student build their future.
We are excited to share the 2021 President’s Annual Report, which highlights major accomplishments from the previous academic year. We are grateful for everything you do to advance the University of Georgia.
